Financial Crisis! What is the right thing to do?
From both sides of the Fence.
Once upon a time a gentleman faced a financial crisis of not being able to pay his bills. He began to put them in his desk draw to ignore them. However in the back of his mind a little voice questioned him “What is the right thing to do”?
Prompted to address his situation, on a monthly basis he would reach into the draw and pulled out a bill. Telephone the company he owed the debt to and say “ I will pay your bill today, you are the lucky winner of the draw.” He then telephoned all other debtors and explain there would be another draw at the end of the month and desired that they were the winners.
So it went on, the companies lived in expectation and eventually all were repaid. It was a working relationship in communication and acceptance. For the gentleman repaying his debt it was the right thing to do, and the companies accepted the effort.
Not perhaps the way to do things today, nevertheless the “What is the right thing to do?” Perhaps the answer is in communication, acceptance of what one can do, some weekly contribution until all is paid, or back to the contractual agreement of the original repayment figure.
Is it not better to get some and eventually the whole debt paid, than anger, bitterness and resentment and nothing paid at all. ?
